Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with allergic reactions to its components. Caution should be exercised when used in patients taking other serotonin-related medications, and consultation with a physician is necessary. This medication may frequently cause gastrointestinal issues such as constipation and hard stools, requiring immediate consultation with healthcare providers upon symptom occurrence. In rare cases, severe symptoms such as abdominal pain or blood in the stool may indicate ischemic colitis, thus it is essential to discontinue medication immediately and seek medical attention. This medication can lead to severe complications such as bowel obstruction or bowel perforation due to severe constipation; therefore, it is crucial to inform healthcare providers if constipation symptoms worsen. Serious allergic reactions such as shock or anaphylaxis may occur during treatment; thus, any unusual symptoms should prompt immediate discontinuation and emergency care. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should carefully consider the benefits and risks of using this medication, and it is advisable to discontinue breastfeeding if using it. The safety of this medication for children or newborns has not been established, hence it is preferable not to use it in pediatric patients. Elderly patients may have weakened bodily functions, requiring more careful monitoring during treatment. Patients should take the medication out of the PTP packaging for administration, taking care not to swallow the packaging whole. Before taking this medication, it is important to confirm whether chronic constipation or constipation-predominant irritable bowel syndrome is present and to consult adequately regarding any recurrent diarrhea symptoms. Concurrent use with other anticholinergics or antidiarrheals, as well as certain antidepressants, may exacerbate constipation or other side effects, so it is essential to inform healthcare providers about all medications being taken. If symptoms do not improve or adverse reactions occur, consultation with a physician should be made to decide on dosage adjustments or discontinuation.
