How to take

Adult dose

The sustained-release tablet of this medication should be taken once daily, with one tablet at a time. Patients taking this medication 2.5/750 mg sustained-release tablet or 2.5/1000 mg sustained-release tablet should take 2 tablets at the same time once daily. 1. Precautions

This medication helps control blood glucose levels. However, it can rarely cause a dangerous condition called lactic acidosis, so caution is required. Patients who are allergic to this drug or have type 1 diabetes, significantly decreased kidney function, or severe liver disease should not use this medication. Additionally, patients experiencing acute conditions that may affect kidney function, such as dehydration, severe infection, or acute myocardial infarction, may be at risk for using this medication. There is a risk of hypoglycemia, thus caution is especially needed when used with other hypoglycemic agents such as insulin or sulfonylureas. During treatment, kidney function should be regularly monitored, and if kidney function deteriorates, the medication should be discontinued. Rare side effects such as acute pancreatitis or skin blistering resembling bullous pemphigoid have been reported, so if severe abdominal pain or skin abnormalities occur, notify a physician immediately. This medication can be taken regardless of meals, but do not crush, chew, or break the tablet; it should be swallowed whole, and the tablet coat may appear in the stool, which should not be a cause for concern. It is preferable not to use this medication during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, and elderly patients may require dosage adjustments and monitoring of kidney function due to common decline in kidney function. Additionally, it is advisable to avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication, and inform the physician or pharmacist of any other medications being taken as they may interact. In cases of overdose, the risk of lactic acidosis increases, necessitating immediate medical treatment. Lastly, this medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored away from moisture.
