This medication is used as an adjunct to dietary and exercise therapy to assist in blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes, combining the use of Empagliflozin and Sitagliptin.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended starting dose of this medication is 1 time daily with Empagliflozin 10 mg/Sitagliptin 100 mg. If well tolerated and additional blood sugar control is needed, the dose can be increased to 1 time daily with Empagliflozin 25 mg/Sitagliptin 100 mg. This medication can be taken without regard to meals and should be swallowed whole. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered, but do not take double the dose on the same day.

Precautions

This medication may cause allergic reactions. If severe rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing occurs, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. This medication can cause serious pancreatic inflammation known as acute pancreatitis; if abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite occurs during use, seek medical attention immediately. This medication should not be used in certain patients, such as those who have had allergic reactions or have type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Patients with renal impairment should have their kidney function monitored regularly while using this medication, and it is recommended not to use it if kidney function is severely impaired. During use, symptoms of hypoglycemia may occur, particularly if taking insulin or other antidiabetic agents, so blood sugar should be checked frequently, and symptoms should be monitored. This medication may increase the risk of genital infections or urinary tract infections; if symptoms of infection occur, consult medical personnel immediately. Elderly patients or those at risk of reduced fluid volume should be cautious of dehydration or hypotension, and may need to temporarily discontinue medication if necessary. Its safety during pregnancy or breastfeeding has not been established, so it is not recommended during these periods. While taking this medication, it is important to have regular blood tests, kidney function tests, and eye exams to monitor health status. Take care when driving or operating machinery as there is a risk of accidents due to hypoglycemia. In case of overdose, seek medical attention immediately for appropriate treatment, and it is unclear if dialysis can remove this medication.
