Precautions

This drug should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolone antibiotics. During use, symptoms of shock such as nausea, cold extremities, and difficulty breathing may rarely occur; if such symptoms appear, use should be discontinued immediately, and appropriate treatment sought. Allergic reactions may include cardiovascular collapse, loss of consciousness, swelling of the face or neck, difficulty breathing, skin rash, and itching. If these symptoms occur, the use of the drug should be stopped. Temporary symptoms such as burning, irritation, discomfort, redness, itching, tearing, and blurred vision may occur. Rarely, severe skin reactions such as severe keratitis or Stevens-Johnson syndrome may develop; if symptoms worsen, administration should be stopped immediately. Hearing impairment or taste disturbances have also been reported occasionally; if these symptoms occur, consultation with a physician is advised. Long-term use of this drug may lead to the development of resistant bacteria, and fungal infections may worsen, so it is important to use it for the minimum necessary duration. Additionally, its effectiveness against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections has not been established, so if symptoms do not improve, it should be switched to another antibiotic. In elderly patients or when used in conjunction with steroids, the risk of tendon inflammation or rupture is increased; thus, if pain or inflammation symptoms occur, use should be stopped immediately. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only use this drug when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks, as its safety has not been established. Nursing mothers should either stop breastfeeding or cease use of the drug. Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been sufficiently established, so caution is needed with use. This drug is an eye drop intended for ophthalmic use only; it should not be used for other purposes, and care should be taken to avoid direct contact of the bottle tip with the eye during administration. To prevent contamination through shared use, it is advisable to use it individually whenever possible. When storing, keep it out of reach of children in a cool place away from direct sunlight, and do not transfer it to another container to maintain quality.
