Precautions

This medication is an external antiseptic containing povidone-iodine, used to kill bacteria in wounds or infected areas. It is important not to use this medication in certain people. For example, individuals allergic to this medication or its components should not use it. Additionally, those with thyroid dysfunction, particularly those with nodular goiter or Hashimoto's thyroiditis, should avoid using this medication. Patients with impaired kidney function, as well as newborns and infants under 6 months of age, should also refrain from using this medication. Those with herpetic dermatitis on the skin, patients undergoing radioactive iodine therapy, and severely ill patients, such as burn victims, should avoid this medication. Furthermore, this medication should not be applied on deep wounds or mucosal areas and should not be substituted for regular skin cleansers. Care should be taken when using this medication along with other medicines. Those undergoing lithium therapy should avoid regular use of this medication as it may affect thyroid function when used in combination. Using together with chlorhexidine, silver compounds, alkaline preparations, or mercury-containing medications may decrease the antiseptic effect of this medication. Using it with enzyme-containing wound treatments may inactivate the enzyme, and it should not be used with hydrogen peroxide. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid long-term or widespread use of this medication. If iodine is absorbed into the body, it can affect the thyroid function of the fetus or newborn, so thyroid function testing for newborns or infants is recommended. Absorption through the skin can interfere with thyroid function test results. Care should be taken when removing surgical gauze or tape stuck to areas where the medication was applied to avoid skin damage. Store this medication out of the reach of infants, and if ingested, seek immediate medical attention. A gap of 1 to 2 weeks after using this medication is recommended before performing scintigraphy for thyroid diagnosis, as thyroid function may temporarily change. Because this medication contains a high amount of iodine, excessive or prolonged use can lead to thyroid dysfunction. When there is an infection, clean the wound with saline before using this medication, and avoid using surgical gauze or ignition sources until the medication has completely dried. Those with a history of thyroid disease or kidney failure must consult with a physician or pharmacist before using this medication. If allergic symptoms such as skin rash, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing occur after using this medication, stop using it immediately and seek medical attention. If severe skin irritation or wounds occur, stop usage and consult with a professional. Using large amounts can lead to electrolyte abnormalities, renal function decline, and changes in thyroid function, necessitating caution. In the event of an overdose, symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, headache, or comatose state may occur, and appropriate treatment should be sought immediately. This medication should only be used externally and precautions should be taken to avoid getting it into the eyes. If it does enter the eyes, rinse immediately with clean water. Do not mix it with other medications, and ensure that the affected area is clean and disinfected before use. If this medication gets on clothing or containers, it should be washed off immediately, as soap could reduce the antiseptic effect. Caution should be exercised to ensure that the solution does not get caught between the skin and the bipolar plate when using an electric scalpel. Finally, store this medication out of the reach of children, protect from direct sunlight, and be cautious if using metal containers as corrosion may occur.
