Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients who are allergic to any of the active or inactive ingredients of this medication, patients with type 1 diabetes, patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, patients undergoing dialysis, and patients with a history of myocardial infarction should not take this medication. Patients with renal impairment may experience reduced efficacy of this medication, therefore it is important to routinely monitor renal function before and during treatment. Additionally, caution should be exercised when administering to patients in NYHA functional classification I-II stage of heart failure, and it is not recommended for patients in more severe stages. Rare side effects such as acute pancreatitis or blistering similar to pemphigus may occur during the use of this medication, so if persistent abdominal pain or skin blisters develop, consult a physician immediately. The most common side effects include urinary tract infections, and occasionally reports of hypoglycemia, ketoacidosis, pancreatitis, and allergic reactions have been made. Extra caution is needed, especially when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas, as the risk of hypoglycemia may increase. This medication may lower blood pressure due to decreased fluid volume; therefore, it should be used carefully in patients with hypotension or cardiovascular disease, as well as in elderly patients. The risk of urinary tract infections and genital fungal infections may also increase, and if symptoms of infection appear, immediate treatment should be sought. It is advisable for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid using this medication, and it is not recommended for children under 18 years of age due to insufficient evidence of safety and efficacy. In cases of overdose, there are no specific antidotes, so appropriate treatment should be based on the symptoms, and this medication is unlikely to be removed by hemodialysis. This medication may slightly affect the ability to drive or operate machinery, especially when taken with drugs that carry a risk of hypoglycemia; caution should be exercised in such cases. Finally, when storing this medication, keep it out of reach of children, and store it in its original container to maintain quality.
