Treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease
This medication is used to treat moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer's disease is a condition characterized by memory decline and cognitive dysfunction, and this drug helps alleviate these symptoms and improve the daily functioning of patients.
Treatment must be initiated by a physician experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s dementia, and only if a caregiver can periodically check the patient's medication compliance. This drug is administered orally once daily at the same time every day. If necessary, it may be given twice daily. The maximum daily dose is 20 mg, and the dose should be increased by 5 mg weekly over the first 3 weeks.
This medication should not be used in individuals who are allergic to any of its components. It should also not be administered to patients with very poor liver function or severely impaired kidney function. Caution should be exercised when used in patients with epilepsy or a history of seizures, especially if taken in conjunction with medications such as amantadine, ketamine, or dextromethorphan, as side effects may be exacerbated. Patients in situations where urine acidity (pH) may increase should be monitored carefully, and the safety of this drug has not been adequately confirmed in patients with recent myocardial infarction, heart failure, or uncontrolled hypertension. This drug may cause side effects such as dizziness, headache, constipation, drowsiness, and hypertension, and central nervous system abnormalities such as mental confusion, hallucinations, or seizures can occur rarely; if any abnormal symptoms appear, consult a physician immediately. This medication may interact with other drugs, so caution is required when taken with NMDA antagonists, antipsychotic drugs, muscle relaxants, anticoagulants, gastroprotective agents, etc., and all medications being taken should be disclosed to a physician or pharmacist. Pregnant women should consult a physician before taking this medication, and breastfeeding is not recommended while taking it. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children or adolescents under 18 years of age, and they should not be used in this population. Overdose may result in serious symptoms such as coma, confusion, hallucinations, or seizures, and in such cases, immediate medical attention is necessary. This medication may affect a patient's concentration and reaction time, so caution is especially necessary when driving or operating hazardous machinery. Finally, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children, and transferring it to other containers may affect the quality of the medication, so care should be taken.
