Facilitation of sputum expectoration and improvement of mucus breakdown in acute and chronic respiratory diseases
This medication helps soften mucus in acute and chronic respiratory diseases, facilitating the expulsion of phlegm during coughing. It is used to make breathing easier and alleviate symptoms.
Adults: Administer erdosteine 300 mg orally 2~3 times daily. When administered for acute respiratory conditions, do not use continuously for more than 10 days.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. First, it should not be administered to patients who are allergic to this medication or its components. Additionally, it should not be used by patients with liver cirrhosis or cystathionine synthase deficiency as the metabolites of this medication may interfere with methionine metabolism. Patients with peptic ulcers should also avoid this medication. Patients with severe renal impairment, particularly those with a creatinine clearance of 25 mL/min or less, should not use this medication. Patients with severe liver dysfunction should also not take this medication. Since this medication contains lactose, it should not be given to patients with genetic disorders such as galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Moreover, this medication should be used with caution in some patients. Patients with mild or moderate liver dysfunction should ensure they do not exceed 300 mg per day when taking this medication. Diabetic patients or those on a low-calorie diet should be particularly cautious when taking the syrup form. In case of overdose, symptoms may include excessive sweating, dizziness, facial flushing, headaches, cold-like symptoms, and respiratory distress. Furthermore, symptoms such as fatigue, indigestion, palpitations, swelling of the face or body, itching, weakness, confusion, and rash have also been reported. Taking this medication with expectorants may hinder the expectoration of phlegm in the bronchi, which can increase the risk of bronchial infection and may cause issues with bronchial contraction and relaxation, so caution is advised.
