This medication is used to prevent and treat various disorders related to anemia caused by folic acid deficiency. It is particularly effective for anemia occurring due to a lack of folic acid, such as nutritional deficiency anemia, pregnancy-related anemia, and pediatric anemia. It also helps when dietary intake is insufficient due to a high demand for folic acid in pregnant or nursing women. It is also used for patients with consuming diseases or anemia caused by antiepileptic drug therapy. Additionally, it is effective in the prevention and treatment of megaloblastic anemia associated with alcohol addiction and liver diseases. Overall, this medication is used to improve and treat various anemia symptoms related to folic acid deficiency.

How to take

Adult dose

For the treatment of folic acid deficiency or deficiency due to other medications, take 0.25 to 1 mg daily. For the prevention of folic acid deficiency and in various conditions with increased folic acid requirements, 0.1 to 0.25 mg per day.

Child dose

Children over 24 months with folic acid deficiency or deficiency due to other medications should take 0.25 to 1 mg per day. For the prevention of folic acid deficiency and various conditions with increased folic acid requirements, 1 day 0

Precautions

This medication should not be taken by individuals who are allergic to this medication or any of its ingredients. Patients with pernicious anemia or megaloblastic anemia due to vitamin B12 deficiency should not take this medication. Since this medication contains lactose, individuals with galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medication. Patients receiving treatment from a physician should consult their doctor, dentist, or pharmacist before taking this medication. Pernicious anemia patients should take vitamin B12 alongside this medication, and caution is needed as there may be no effect on neurological symptoms even if blood status improves when the diagnosis is uncertain. Patients taking amino salicylic acid, oral contraceptives, methotrexate, or trimethoprim, which are dihydrofolate reductase inhibitors, should consult before taking this medication as interactions may occur. Patients taking phenytoin, a hydantoin antiepileptic drug, should be cautious as this medication may lower phenytoin blood levels and increase seizure frequency. Patients on sulfasalazine or cholestyramine should consult their doctor or pharmacist as gastrointestinal absorption of this medication may be impaired. If allergic symptoms such as erythema, skin rash, itching, and generalized malaise, or respiratory distress occur during the use of this medication, discontinue it immediately and consult a professional. If symptoms such as loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, edema, or weight loss arise, stop taking the medication and consult a physician. High doses may result in central nervous system symptoms such as gastrointestinal disturbances, sleep issues, decreased concentration, hyperactivity, irritability, agitation, depression, confusion, and impaired judgment, so caution is needed. The prescribed dosage must be strictly adhered to, and parental guidance is necessary when administering to children. If symptoms do not improve or worsen after about one month of use, it is essential to consult a physician or pharmacist. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children and stored in a sealed container away from direct sunlight, in a cool, dry place. Additionally, to maintain quality, do not transfer it to another container and avoid misuse or abuse.
