This medication is used to treat bleeding tendencies associated with systemic fibrinolysis, such as those seen in leukemia, aplastic anemia, purpura, cancer, and abnormal bleeding occurring during or after surgery. It is also effective for abnormal bleeding due to local fibrinolysis, such as pulmonary bleeding, genital bleeding, renal bleeding, and bleeding during or after prostate surgery. It is used to improve various bleeding symptoms caused by different factors.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

As tranexamic acid, the usual adult dosage is 750 to 2000 mg per day, divided into 3 to 4 oral doses. Adjust according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication may not be suitable for certain patients. For example, it should not be administered to patients receiving thrombin, patients with severe kidney impairment, or patients allergic to this drug or its ingredients. Additionally, special caution is required when used in patients with thrombosis or a high risk of thrombosis, patients who are bedridden for extended periods after surgery, or patients with decreased kidney function. This medication contains a dye known as Yellow No. 5, so those allergic to this ingredient should also use it with caution. Rarely, when taking this medication, severe allergic reactions or symptoms such as itching, rash, or flushing may occur, so if any unusual symptoms develop, it is advisable to stop taking the medication immediately and consult a healthcare professional. There may be temporary changes in color perception and gastrointestinal symptoms such as loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and heartburn. If this medication is used long-term, it is recommended to have regular eye examinations and liver function tests. In particular, it is safer not to use this drug if there is abnormal menstrual bleeding. When used with other drugs, there may be an increased risk of thrombosis, so be sure to inform healthcare providers, and non-hormonal contraceptive methods are recommended for those using hormonal contraceptives. During pregnancy, it should be used cautiously as it can cross the placenta, and while it is reported that it does not significantly affect breastfeeding infants, caution is still advised. Safety in children under 15 years has not been fully established, and elderly patients may require dose adjustments due to decreased bodily functions. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and hypotension may occur, requiring immediate medical assistance and appropriate emergency care. Using this medication in large quantities for an extended period may rarely cause retinal changes, so caution is advised.
