Improvement of essential hypertension
Essential hypertension refers to a state of persistently elevated blood pressure. This medication helps control blood pressure in essential hypertension, thereby maintaining heart and vascular health. Patients are advised to regularly monitor their blood pressure while using this medication and to improve lifestyle habits for enhanced efficacy. This drug also plays an important role in preventing complications arising from hypertension. Thus, it is used for the treatment of essential hypertension.
The recommended dose is 30 to 60 mg once daily, regardless of meals. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled, the dose may be increased to 120 mg once daily. For elderly patients over 70 years, an initial dose of 30 mg once daily is recommended. For patients with severe renal impairment, treatment should be started with 30 mg once daily and not exceed 60 mg per day. In patients with reduced effective blood volume, the initial dose should be 30 mg once daily.
Safety and efficacy in pediatric and adolescent patients under 18 years of age have not been established.
This medication can cause severe harm or death to the fetus or newborn if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, thus it must be discontinued immediately once pregnancy is confirmed. It should not be used in patients who are allergic to any of the components of this drug, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients on kidney dialysis, patients with moderate to severe liver dysfunction, or patients with bile duct obstruction. Particular caution is needed in patients with low blood volume or sodium, impaired kidney function, renal artery hypertension, aortic stenosis or mitral valve stenosis, and primary aldosteronism when using this medication, and they should be monitored closely. Common side effects include headache and dizziness, while less frequent symptoms may include dyspepsia, nausea, elevated liver enzyme levels, cough, muscle pain, skin rash, and erectile dysfunction. If symptoms of significantly low blood pressure or severe allergic reactions occur, consult a physician immediately, particularly if there is a rapid drop in blood pressure requiring appropriate treatment. Serum potassium levels should be monitored regularly while taking this medication, and caution should be exercised when using potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements, as the risk of hyperkalemia may increase. Consult a physician or pharmacist if taking in conjunction with other antihypertensives, lithium, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to prevent interactions. Women who are pregnant or planning to conceive, as well as breastfeeding mothers, should consult healthcare professionals before taking this medication, and it's recommended to either stop breastfeeding or discontinue this medication while nursing. Safety and efficacy in children aged under 18 have not been established, so it is advised not to use it in this population. For elderly patients, dosage adjustment is generally not necessary, but some may respond more sensitively to the drug, necessitating caution. This medication should not be administered to patients with moderate to severe liver dysfunction, as severely impaired liver function may significantly increase drug concentration. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, palpitations, and bradycardia may occur, and immediate medical attention is required. Store this medication out of the reach of children, and it is safer and better for quality to not transfer it to other containers.
