Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes by administering empagliflozin and linagliptin together. When taken alongside diet and exercise, it can effectively manage blood sugar levels. This leads to improved blood sugar control ability and a smoother management of diabetes for patients.
The recommended starting dose of this medication is 10 mg of empagliflozin and 5 mg of linagliptin, taken once daily. If additional blood glucose control is needed and tolerance is adequate, the dose may be increased to 25/5 mg, taken once daily. This medication can be administered without regard to meals, and the tablet should be swallowed whole. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered, but if the next scheduled dose is within 12 hours, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dosing schedule.
This medication is a diabetes treatment containing both empagliflozin and linagliptin as ingredients. First, this medication should not be used by individuals allergic to empagliflozin, linagliptin, or any other ingredient contained in the drug, by patients with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, or those undergoing kidney dialysis. Patients with impaired kidney function should regularly undergo kidney function tests before taking this medication. It is especially important to check kidney status at least once a year before starting the medication and during treatment. For patients with mild symptoms of heart failure, careful use is advised, while it is not recommended for patients with severe heart failure. While taking this medication, there is a risk of developing acute pancreatitis, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain or vomiting occur, prompt consultation with a physician is necessary. Additionally, a rare skin condition called bullous pemphigoid that causes blisters may occur, and any skin abnormalities should be reported immediately. The most common side effect is urinary tract infection, but other possible side effects include hypoglycemia, thirst, cough, constipation, itching, and rash. Particular caution is needed if this medication is taken alongside other blood sugar-lowering agents such as insulin or sulfonylureas due to the increased risk of hypoglycemia. Also, this medication may reduce the body's fluid levels, so elderly patients or those with cardiovascular disease who are at risk of dehydration or low blood pressure should exercise caution when taking it. Care is also needed while driving or operating machinery to reduce the risk of accidents due to hypoglycemia. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised to avoid taking this medication, especially during breastfeeding as it may transfer to the baby through breast milk, and discontinuing breastfeeding is recommended. Lastly, this medication is not recommended for use in children under 18 years old, as safety and efficacy have not been established. If any abnormal symptoms occur while taking this medication, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is important, and regular check-ups to manage health status are crucial.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be kept in a tightly sealed container to prevent exposure to air or moisture, and it is safe to store at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius.
