Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication helps control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes by using linagliptin and metformin together. It supports dietary and exercise therapy to effectively manage blood sugar. This enables patients to maintain stable blood sugar levels and helps prevent complications. It provides a safe and reliable treatment to improve blood sugar control.
This medication should be taken once daily with the evening meal. For the 5/1000 mg extended-release tablet, take 1 tablet once daily. For the 2.5/1000 mg extended-release tablet, take 2 tablets simultaneously once daily. The initial dosage is linagliptin 5 mg and metformin hydrochloride 1000 mg, with metformin hydrochloride being increased gradually up to a maximum of 2000 mg per day.
This drug can rarely cause a serious condition called lactic acidosis, so it should be avoided in patients with impaired kidney function or in situations where there is a risk of rapid deterioration of kidney function due to acute infection, dehydration, or severe trauma. It should not be administered to patients who are allergic to any of the ingredients, or those with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, or severe liver dysfunction. There is a risk of hypoglycemia, so blood sugar levels should be closely monitored, especially when used with insulin or sulfonylureas. Elderly patients with reduced kidney function or those taking medications that may affect kidney function should undergo regular kidney function tests, and dosage adjustments may be necessary. Acute pancreatitis or skin blistering diseases may occur, so if any abnormal symptoms arise while taking this medication, a doctor should be consulted immediately. It is advised to take this medication with meals or after meals to reduce gastrointestinal discomfort, and the tablets should not be chewed or crushed, but swallowed whole. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid using this medication and should consult with a doctor if planning to become pregnant or if they are already pregnant. There may be drug interactions, so it is essential to inform the doctor or pharmacist of any other medications being taken. If using iodinated contrast agents during radiological examinations, it is necessary to discontinue this medication for a certain period before and after the examination and to check kidney function. Excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided during treatment, and this medication should not be used in acute alcohol intoxication. Overdose may lead to gastrointestinal disturbances or lactic acidosis; if suspected, immediate medical attention should be sought. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored away from moisture and direct sunlight.
