Precautions

This drug should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to quinolone antibiotics. Rarely, symptoms of shock such as nausea, cold extremities, and difficulty breathing may occur during use. If these symptoms occur, discontinue use immediately and seek adequate treatment. Additionally, hypersensitivity reactions may occur such as cardiovascular collapse, loss of consciousness, angioedema, airway obstruction, rash, hives, pruritus, redness and swelling around the eyes; if any of these symptoms occur, use should be stopped immediately. Temporary burning, irritation, discomfort, redness, itching, keratitis, conjunctivitis, facial swelling, blurred vision, tearing, dryness, and eye pain may occur; rarely, dizziness or severe skin disorders such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome may occur, and use should be stopped immediately if these symptoms occur. Hearing impairment and taste disturbances may also occur as side effects. This medication should only be used for the minimum necessary period to avoid excessive growth of fungi or resistant bacteria during prolonged use. To prevent the development of resistant organisms, it should be used only for appropriate organisms identified through susceptibility testing, and it is not proven effective for MRSA infections; alternative treatments should be employed if symptoms do not improve. In particular, the risk of tendon inflammation or rupture is increased when used in conjunction with steroids or in the elderly, so discontinue use immediately if pain or inflammation occurs. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication only when the benefits outweigh the risks, and those who are breastfeeding should discontinue nursing or stop the medication. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established, so use is not recommended. This medication is for ocular use only; care should be taken to prevent the tip of the container from touching the eye during administration. To prevent contamination, avoid sharing, discard the first 1-2 drops when first used, and use the entire contents of the opened bottle at once; discard any remaining solution and container afterward. When storing, keep it out of reach of children, away from direct sunlight, and store in a cool place; do not transfer to another container to maintain quality.
