Treatment of essential hypertension
Essential hypertension refers to a condition in which the blood pressure is persistently high, putting strain on the heart and blood vessels. This medication is used to control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Regular use can stabilize blood pressure, helping to improve health. It is used for essential hypertension.
The recommended initial dose of this medication is 40 milligrams once a day, administered regardless of meals. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled at this dose, it can be increased up to 80 milligrams per day. In elderly patients aged 75 years and older, an initial dose of 20 milligrams may be considered. For patients with mild to moderate liver impairment and decreased effective intravascular blood volume, an initial dose of 20 milligrams is also recommended.
The safety and efficacy of this medication in children and adolescents under the age of 18 have not been established.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so if pregnancy is confirmed, it should be discontinued immediately. Patients who are allergic to any component of this medication, pregnant women, and patients with certain impaired kidney function should not take it. Patients with congestive heart failure, severe renal impairment, or renal artery stenosis should use this medication with caution and should be monitored regularly for blood pressure and kidney function. Patients with dehydration or reduced salt levels may experience hypotension symptoms upon initial use, so caution is required. Since there is a risk of elevated potassium levels, those taking potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, etc., should regularly check their blood potassium levels. Common side effects of this medication include dizziness and hypotension, so caution should be exercised when driving or operating hazardous machinery. There may be interactions if taken with lithium medications or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, so consultation with a healthcare provider is necessary. Women who are breastfeeding are advised to avoid this medication, and if they are taking it, they should discontinue breastfeeding or consult a doctor. In case of overdose, symptoms like hypotension and dizziness may occur, so if symptoms are severe, immediately visit a medical facility. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children, kept away from light and moisture, and retained in its original packaging.
