Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

The recommended dose of this medication is 5 mg of linagliptin once daily (6.67 mg of linagliptin besilate). It can be given without regard to meals. When used in combination with insulin or insulin secretagogues (such as sulfonylureas), lower doses of insulin and insulin secretagogues may be needed to minimize the risk of hypoglycemia.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with allergies to the active ingredient or any other components. Patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis should not take this medication. Caution is required as the risk of hypoglycemia may increase when used with medications that can cause hypoglycemia, such as insulin or sulfonylureas. Use is not recommended in patients with severe heart failure, and those with mild heart failure should use it cautiously.
