Patients not currently on metformin treatment: Take this medication at a dose of 50/500 mg, 1 tablet twice daily, increasing to this medication at 50/1000 mg, 1 tablet twice daily as needed. 2. Precautions

This medication consists of two components, each helping to control blood sugar. First, the sitagliptin component can cause rare but serious allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or lips occur within 3 months of administration, discontinue the medication immediately and consult a doctor. Additionally, sitagliptin may cause pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so if there is abdominal pain, vomiting, or persistent abdominal discomfort, inform medical personnel immediately. The metformin component can cause lactic acidosis, a rare but life-threatening metabolic disturbance; thus, this medication should not be taken by individuals with impaired kidney function, dehydration, severe infections, or heart conditions. Especially in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, acute heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction, this medication should not be used. If iodine contrast agents are to be administered for radiological examinations, this medication must be discontinued before and after the examination, and should only be resumed after confirming normal kidney function. It is advisable for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid this medication, as its safety and effectiveness in children under 18 years of age have not been established. While taking this medication, regular kidney function and blood tests should be conducted, and it is recommended to periodically check vitamin B12 levels. Alcohol may increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so excessive drinking should be avoided during treatment. Furthermore, if used together with other diabetes medications or insulin, hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, so blood sugar should be closely monitored, and medication dosage adjusted in consultation with a physician, if necessary. If undergoing surgery, the medication should be stopped 48 hours before the procedure and can be resumed only after oral intake is possible and kidney function is confirmed as normal. Finally, if unusual skin rashes, severe joint pain, or blistering skin conditions occur while taking this medication, inform a doctor immediately, and discontinue the medication if such symptoms arise.
