Precautions
This medicine consists of two components, each used for diabetes treatment. The first component is a drug that helps control blood sugar, and the second component acts to lower blood sugar.
When taking this medicine, severe allergic reactions may occur, so if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck appear, discontinue use immediately and notify a healthcare provider. Additionally, pancreatitis may develop, so if symptoms like abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite occur, consult a physician immediately.
This medicine should not be used in patients with poor kidney function, acute heart failure or heart attack, acute infections or dehydration, and in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Particularly, if a diagnostic test involving iodine contrast media is planned, this medicine should be discontinued before and after the examination, resuming only after confirming normal kidney function.
Rare but serious side effects such as lactic acidosis may occur during use. If abnormal symptoms such as muscle pain, difficulty breathing, fatigue, or abdominal pain appear, inform healthcare personnel immediately. Moreover, alcohol consumption can increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so avoiding alcohol is advisable.
This medicine can cause hypoglycemia, hence caution is needed when skipping meals, irregular eating, or excessive exercise. The risk of hypoglycemia may increase when taken with other blood sugar-lowering agents, so blood sugar levels should be monitored frequently.
During use, regular monitoring of kidney function and blood vitamin B12 levels is necessary to ensure no abnormalities, and caution is also required for patients with impaired liver function.
In case of surgery, discontinue this medicine 48 hours prior to the operation, and it should be resumed only after confirming the recovery of normal kidney function post-surgery.
If severe rash or blisters appear on the skin during treatment, alert a doctor immediately and seek treatment.
The safety and effectiveness of this medicine have not been established in children under 18 years of age, and the elderly may require dosage adjustment and regular monitoring due to the possibility of reduced kidney function.
