Precautions

This medication can rarely cause a serious condition known as lactic acidosis, which can lead to death, so it must be used with extreme caution. Patients with allergies to the active ingredients or excipients, type 1 diabetes, lactic acidosis, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe renal impairment, or serious liver dysfunction should not take this medication. Additionally, it should not be used during acute diseases that can affect renal function, such as dehydration, severe infection, acute myocardial infarction, or shock. This medication may cause hypoglycemia, so when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas, blood sugar should be monitored closely and dosages adjusted as necessary. To reduce the risk of lactic acidosis, renal function should be routinely checked, and elderly patients or those with signs of dehydration should take extra caution. Skin conditions such as acute pancreatitis or bullous pemphigoid may occur, so if severe abdominal pain or skin abnormalities develop during use, contact a doctor immediately. This medication may lower vitamin B12 levels, so regular checks for vitamin B12 deficiency are advisable during prolonged use. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet; swallow it whole, even if the tablet shell appears in the stool, as this is a normal occurrence. This medication may interact with other drugs; therefore, inform healthcare professionals of any other medications being taken, especially those that can affect kidney function. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, it is advisable to avoid this medication; if planning to become pregnant, consult with healthcare professionals to determine appropriate treatment options. Elderly patients often have decreased kidney function, so renal function should be checked frequently when using this medication, and dosages should be adjusted to the minimum necessary. Overdose may cause gastrointestinal disturbances or lactic acidosis, so strictly adhere to dosing guidelines and seek immediate medical attention for any abnormal symptoms. Finally, keep this medication out of the reach of children, store in a cool, dry place, and do not transfer it to another container.
