Patients taking this sustained release tablet of 2.5/1000 mg should take 2 tablets together once a day. Precautions

This medication helps control blood sugar levels. However, it can rarely cause a serious condition called lactic acidosis, which can be very dangerous, so caution is advised. It should not be used by individuals allergic to its components, or those with type 1 diabetes, severe kidney impairment, or severe liver dysfunction. It should also be avoided in the case of acute illnesses that can affect kidney function such as dehydration, severe infections, or acute myocardial infarction. Due to the risk of hypoglycemia, blood sugar levels should be monitored frequently, especially when used together with other hypoglycemic agents like insulin or sulfonylureas. Caution is also needed in cases of excessive alcohol consumption, prolonged fasting, or impaired liver function. This drug is primarily excreted through the kidneys, so regular kidney function tests should be conducted, and it should not be administered in cases of impaired kidney function. Elderly patients are also commonly affected by renal impairment and should exercise special caution. Symptoms of pancreatitis such as acute pancreatitis may occur, so if severe or persistent abdominal pain develops, immediate consultation with a physician is necessary. Additionally, if blisters or rashes appear on the skin, it is advisable to discontinue this medication and seek medical attention from a specialist. Vitamin B12 levels may decrease, so monitoring blood vitamin B12 concentrations is necessary during long-term use. This medication should be swallowed whole and not crushed, chewed, or broken, although the tablet shell may appear in the stool, which is normal. Interactions may occur when taken with other medications, especially those that affect kidney function or other hypoglycemic agents, so consultation with a physician or pharmacist is recommended. It is better to avoid using this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and if planning to become pregnant, it is important to consult a physician to determine appropriate treatment options. Safety in children has not been established, so it is not used in pediatric patients. In case of overdose, gastrointestinal disturbances or lactic acidosis may occur, and immediate hospital treatment is necessary. When storing, keep out of reach of children, avoid moisture, and do not transfer to another container.
