This medication is a treatment that helps control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes by using Linagliptin and Metformin together. Taking it along with diet control and exercise therapy can effectively manage blood sugar levels. This leads to stable improvement in blood sugar levels and helps prevent complications of diabetes. It is an actively recommended treatment method for maintaining healthy blood sugar management.
For the extended-release tablet 5/1000 mg, take 1 tablet once daily. For patients taking the extended-release tablet 2.5/1000 mg, take 2 tablets at the same time once daily. If not currently being treated with metformin, the initial dosage is a total daily amount of 5 mg of Linagliptin and 1000 mg of metformin hydrochloride, and metformin hydrochloride can be gradually increased to the maximum recommended daily dosage of 2000 mg.
This medication may cause severe lactic acidosis and hypoglycemia, so caution is required. It should not be used by patients with allergy to the ingredients of this medication, type 1 diabetes, lactic acidosis, or diabetic ketoacidosis. It is also not to be administered to patients with severely impaired renal function or acute diseases that may affect renal function, such as dehydration, severe infections, or acute myocardial infarction. Patients with impaired liver function, acute alcohol intoxication, alcoholism, or malnutrition should also not take this medication. As this medication poses a risk of hypoglycemia, careful dosage adjustment is necessary when used with insulin or sulfonylureas. Regular checks of renal function are required, and if renal function declines, the medication should be discontinued or used cautiously. Skin conditions such as acute pancreatitis or similar bullous diseases may occur; symptoms should immediately be reported to a doctor. This medication may lower vitamin B12 levels, so it is recommended to monitor vitamin B12 levels during long-term use. When taking the tablet, do not crush or chew it; swallow it whole, even if the tablet's coating is excreted. There may be interactions with other medications, so caution is needed, especially when taking medications that affect renal function. It is advisable to avoid use during pregnancy or lactation and to consult a doctor if planning for pregnancy. Elderly patients often have reduced renal function, so dosages should be adjusted and renal function should be monitored regularly. In case of overdose, there is a risk of lactic acidosis, so immediate medical treatment should be sought, and dialysis may be necessary. When storing, keep in a sealed container out of children's reach and avoid moisture, and it is advisable not to transfer to other containers.
