Improvement of symptoms of dementia and cerebral circulatory disorders; relief of arteriosclerotic headaches; adjunctive treatment of hypertension
This medication helps improve decreased motivation due to chronic cerebral circulation disorders caused by sequelae of cerebral infarction. It also alleviates atherosclerotic headaches commonly seen in the elderly and is used as an adjunct during hypertension treatment. The 30 mg dosage is effective in treating symptoms such as memory impairment, concentration difficulties, decreased judgment, and lack of initiative in patients with primary degenerative vascular dementia and mixed dementia. This medication is useful for improving brain function and alleviating dementia symptoms, contributing to an overall enhancement of the patient's quality of life.
* 5 mg, 10 mg Adults: Administer 5 ∼ 10 mg of nicergoline orally 2 ∼ 3 times daily before meals. Adjust the dose as appropriate according to symptoms. * 30 mg Adults: Administer 30 mg of nicergoline orally once daily before a meal. If the desired effect is not achieved at this dose, it may be increased to 60 mg. The dose may be reduced after symptoms improve. Reduce the dose in patients with impaired renal function (serum creatinine >175 µmol/L) (2 mg/dL).
This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, do not use it in individuals allergic to this drug or ergot alkaloids, those with acute myocardial infarction or acute bleeding, individuals taking sympathomimetic drugs, those with very slow heart rate, those who have not completed hemostasis after intracranial bleeding, and those with orthostatic control disorders. Also, it should be administered cautiously to patients with mild bradycardia or renal dysfunction. This medication may cause gastrointestinal symptoms such as loss of appetite, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, or dry mouth. Liver function abnormalities may arise with increased liver enzyme levels. Cardiovascular side effects such as dizziness, orthostatic hypotension, hypertension, elevated blood uric acid levels, and lowered blood pressure may occur infrequently. Neurological symptoms such as drowsiness, fatigue, headache, tinnitus, insomnia may happen, and rarely skin reactions like rashes, urticaria, itching, flushing, and heat sensations may occur. When taking this medication, blood pressure may drop too low if used with antihypertensive medications, so blood pressure should be monitored frequently. Additionally, it may affect uric acid metabolism, so patients with a history of hyperuricemia or gout should take care. Caution is needed when driving or operating machinery after taking this medication. This drug is metabolized in the liver, so it may interact with other medications, particularly enhancing the effects of antihypertensives. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should only use this medication if the benefits outweigh the risks, and nursing mothers should avoid use or discontinue breastfeeding. Elderly patients may need dosage adjustments due to diminished bodily functions, and safety in children has not been established. Overdosage may lead to temporary drops in blood pressure, so changes in blood pressure should be closely monitored, and appropriate measures should be taken. Finally, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children, and it must be kept sealed in its original container to maintain the quality of the medication and prevent misuse.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication is sensitive to light and must be stored in a sealed container that blocks light. Also, store the medication at room temperature, making sure the temperature is maintained between 1°C and 30°C. Storing it this way will safely maintain the effectiveness of the medication.
