How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken once daily with the evening meal. For 5/1000 mg XR tablets, take one tablet once daily. For 2.5/1000 mg XR tablets, take two tablets at the same time once daily. The dose of metformin hydrochloride should be increased gradually. To maintain its extended-release properties, this medication should not be split, crushed, chewed, or altered in any way. 1. Precautions

This medication is primarily used to treat diabetes and helps control blood sugar levels. Rarely, while taking this medication, a serious condition called lactic acidosis may occur, which can happen when lactic acid accumulates excessively in the body and can be dangerous, so caution is needed. It is generally unsafe for patients with severely decreased kidney function, poor liver function, acute infections, or dehydration to take this medication. Pregnant women or patients with serious heart conditions are also advised against using this medication. This medication can cause hypoglycemia, so when taken together with other blood sugar-lowering agents such as insulin or sulfonylureas, blood sugar levels should be monitored regularly. Symptoms such as gastrointestinal disturbances, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting may occur during treatment, though these usually improve over time. Acute pancreatitis or skin blistering conditions may occur, so if severe abdominal pain or skin rashes develop, it is important to consult a doctor immediately. Vitamin B12 levels may decrease, so if taken for an extended period, regular blood tests to monitor this are necessary. This medication should be swallowed whole without breaking, crushing, or chewing the tablet; the coating may appear in stool, but this is normal. There may be interactions with other medications, so always inform your doctor or pharmacist of other medications you are taking. Particularly when used with medications that may affect kidney function, kidney function should be monitored closely. When undergoing examinations with contrast media, this medication should be discontinued for a certain period before and after the examination and resumed only after kidney function has stabilized. Because elderly patients may have decreased kidney function, dose adjustments and regular kidney function tests are required. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid using this medication, and if planning to become pregnant, they should consult with a doctor. In the case of an overdose, gastrointestinal disturbances or lactic acidosis may occur, so if suspected, seek medical attention immediately. When storing this medication, keep it out of reach of children, avoid moisture, and store it in its original container.
