Precautions
This drug is a medication that helps control blood sugar and contains linagliptin and metformin hydrochloride as active ingredients.
Caution should be taken as a rare side effect called lactic acidosis may occur when using this drug. Lactic acidosis is a dangerous condition caused by excessive accumulation of lactic acid in the body and may require immediate treatment.
This drug should not be used in the following patients: those allergic to this drug or its components, type 1 diabetes patients, patients with severe renal dysfunction, those expected to experience acute renal function changes due to dehydration or severe infection, patients with severe hepatic dysfunction, acute alcohol intoxication patients, those in a very poor nutritional state, or those in specific high-risk situations during pregnancy.
There is a risk of hypoglycemia; thus, blood sugar changes should be closely monitored, especially when used with insulin or sulfonylurea drugs. Additionally, excessive drinking or prolonged fasting should be avoided during metformin treatment.
Kidney function significantly affects the efficacy and safety of this drug; regular kidney function tests should be performed before and during treatment. Caution is needed in the elderly with decreased kidney function, and dose adjustments may be required.
Patients with poor cardiac function or conditions such as acute myocardial infarction or shock should also exercise caution when using this drug.
Before and after examinations using iodinated contrast media, this drug should be temporarily discontinued and restarted only after kidney function has recovered.
This drug should be swallowed whole and not chewed or crushed; however, the drug's coating may pass out in the stool, which is normal.
Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are advised to avoid using this drug, and if planning to become pregnant, consultation with a physician is necessary.
If any symptoms such as abdominal pain, severe muscle pain, shortness of breath, skin rash, edema, persistent cough, or sudden weight gain occur during use, medical personnel should be informed immediately.
This drug may interact with various medications; therefore, it is essential to inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medicines.
Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney function should manage their condition through regular examinations and avoid exceeding the maximum dosage.
In case of overdose, measures may be necessary to remove the drug from the gastrointestinal tract, and hemodialysis may be required to eliminate the drug if necessary.
This drug should be stored out of reach of children and kept away from moisture and direct sunlight.
