Improvement in blood glucose control for type 2 diabetes
This drug is used as an adjunct to help control blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone or in combination with other medications alongside dietary and exercise regimens. It helps effectively manage blood glucose levels to improve diabetes symptoms, and is thus used for blood glucose control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
The recommended dose is 100 mg once daily when used alone or in combination therapy, with a maximum daily dose of 100 mg. It can be taken without regard to meals. For patients with kidney impairment, dosage adjustments are necessary based on kidney function. - No dosage adjustment is needed for patients with mild to moderate renal impairment (eGFR 45 or greater but less than 90). - For patients with moderate renal impairment (eGFR 30 or greater but less than 45), 50 mg is administered once daily.
This drug may cause severe allergic reactions after administration, so if any allergy symptoms or skin abnormalities occur, it should be discontinued immediately and a physician should be consulted. Symptoms of pancreatitis may develop while taking this medication; therefore, if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting occur, promptly inform a healthcare provider. This drug should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, and should also not be administered in cases of hypersensitivity to this medication. Patients with impaired kidney function may require dosage adjustments for this medication, so regular kidney function tests should be conducted and it should be taken according to a physician's instructions. Since this drug may cause hypoglycemia when used alone or in combination with other diabetes medications, symptoms of hypoglycemia should be closely monitored and blood glucose should be measured frequently if necessary. While taking this drug, side effects such as headaches, upper respiratory infections, nasopharyngitis, and diarrhea may occur, and if abnormal symptoms persist, consult a physician. In cases of severe joint pain or blistering of the skin, this medication should be discontinued immediately and a healthcare provider should be consulted. It is best for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid this medication, and its safety has not been established in children under 18 years old. Elderly patients may have a risk of declining kidney function, so dosage adjustments and regular kidney function tests are necessary. In case of overdose, visit a medical institution immediately for appropriate treatment, as this drug can be partially removed through hemodialysis.
