Efficacy & effects

Sterilization and disinfection effect of medical devices.

View approved original text

Sterilization and disinfection of medical devices are crucial for ensuring safe treatment for patients. This process removes all bacteria and viruses that may be present on medical devices, preventing infections. Sterilization is a method that kills all microorganisms, while disinfection reduces the number of harmful microorganisms. Both methods are essential for maintaining patient safety in a medical environment. These procedures keep medical devices clean and minimize the risk of infection. Therefore, sterilization and disinfection of medical devices are used to create a safe treatment environment.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Mix 80 mL of this medication with 7920 mL of water to prepare the disinfectant. Soak the pre-rinsed medical device completely in the prepared disinfectant. For devices with micro-holes or complex structures, pressurized injection or aspiration should be used to adequately soak them with the disinfectant. Soak for more than 20 minutes. After soaking sufficiently, remove the device and rinse it with flowing sterilized water for more than 15 seconds to ensure that this medication does not remain.

Precautions

This medication should not be used directly on the human body. If it comes into contact with skin, remove contaminated clothing immediately and wash thoroughly with running water. If pain persists, consult a dermatologist. If it gets into the eyes, rinse immediately for more than 15 minutes with running water and seek ophthalmologic care, as delay or insufficient washing may cause eye damage. If vapor is inhaled, move to an area with fresh air and consult a specialist. In case of accidental ingestion, drink a large amount of water or milk and do not induce vomiting; seek immediate medical attention. During use, a strong irritating smell is present, so it should be stored and used in a well-ventilated area. To avoid inhaling vapors, it should be prepared using dedicated equipment or in a well-ventilated place. Wearing protective goggles is essential to prevent it from getting into the eyes, and facilities or water for washing should be prepared during preparation. The vapor from this medication irritates the eyes and respiratory tract; therefore, wear goggles and a mask to prevent inhalation or contact, and always pay attention to ventilation. If the concentration of glycolic acid is below 0.15%, disinfection efficacy cannot be adequately expected, so always check the concentration before use. If organic materials such as blood or bodily fluids are left on the device, disinfection may be less effective, so clean thoroughly to remove contaminants before disinfection. After washing, completely remove the remaining moisture from the device before soaking it in the disinfectant solution. After disinfection, verify for residuals, and if there are any, take appropriate measures such as extending the rinsing time. For spore disinfection, the device should be soaked for at least 5 minutes, and continuous use for extended periods may damage the device, so do not exceed 1 hour. Devices made of natural rubber or raw rubber may undergo changes with repeated use, so verification is necessary. Using this medication on devices that are cracked or rusty will reduce disinfection effectiveness, so avoid using it on such devices. During disinfection, wear protective equipment such as rubber gloves, gowns, masks, and goggles to prevent infection and contact with the drug. When storing, take care to avoid accidental ingestion or drinking, and do not inhale the disinfectant solution during preparation. Store the prepared disinfectant in a container with a lid and keep it closed during use, avoiding direct sunlight and storing at room temperature. The efficacy of the disinfectant may decrease in the presence of moisture or organic materials, so always check the concentration before use. As it is highly acidic, dangerous chlorine gas may occur if mixed with chlorine-based preparations, so do not mix them under any circumstances. When using devices made of vinyl chloride or silicone materials, be cautious as the material may discolor. When disposing, dilute with large amounts of water, neutralize by mixing with alkalines, or safely treat by adding reducing agents. In non-clinical studies, the main ingredient of this medication has been reported to have weak carcinogenicity and the potential to induce lung tumors, so special care should be taken when handling.
