Improvement of allergy symptoms such as allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis, chronic urticaria.
This medication is used for seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, chronic idiopathic urticaria, and itching of the skin. It is also used in combination with topical hydrocortisone for the treatment of skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis. It helps alleviate the symptoms of these conditions and improves the quality of life for patients.
Adults and children aged 6 years and older should take 10mg of cetirizine hydrochloride orally once daily before bedtime. Patients sensitive to adverse effects may take 5mg split between morning and evening doses. Patients with renal impairment should adjust dosage and dosing intervals according to creatinine clearance.
For children aged 6 years and older, take the same as adults, 10mg orally once daily before bedtime. Children with kidney impairment should have their dosage adjusted individually based on renal clearance and body weight.
This medication should not be taken by patients who are allergic to certain components, have severely impaired kidney function, or are under 6 years of age. Additionally, individuals with genetic problems such as lactose intolerance or lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not use this medication. While taking this medication, individuals should not take certain drugs, such as theophylline or ritonavir. Avoid taking this medication with alcohol and use caution with other antihistamines. Patients with impaired kidney or liver function, elderly patients, patients with epilepsy, and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult a physician or pharmacist before taking this medication. Particularly, this medication is excreted through the kidneys, so elderly patients with reduced kidney function should start with a low dose and be closely monitored. This medication requires caution in patients with conditions causing poor urine output. While no major side effects have been reported during pregnancy, it is advisable to consult a physician for safety, and breastfeeding women should exercise caution as it may affect the baby. Overdosage of this medication can lead to symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, dizziness, headache, and irregular heartbeat; in such cases, immediate consultation with medical personnel is necessary. Various side effects such as drowsiness, headache, gastrointestinal disturbances, skin rash, and liver function abnormalities may occur during use, and if abnormal symptoms appear, it is essential to consult a specialist promptly. It is advisable to temporarily discontinue this medication prior to an allergy test, and caution should be exercised while driving or operating machinery. This medication can be taken with food without significantly altering its efficacy, but the absorption rate may be slightly delayed. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept in its original container for safety.
