This medication is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be used alone or in combination with other medications to enhance blood sugar management.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

The recommended dose of this medication is 25 mg once daily. It can be taken regardless of meals. Renal impairment dosage adjustments: - Mild renal impairment (creatinine clearance ≥50 mL/min): no adjustment needed. - Moderate renal impairment (creatinine clearance 30~<50 mL/min): 12.5 mg once daily. - Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min) or end-stage renal disease requiring dialysis

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with allergies to the active ingredient or any other ingredient. It is not suitable for patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic coma, or pre-coma status, or for patients with type 1 diabetes. Patients with severe infections, during surgery, or with moderate trauma may require insulin therapy instead of this medication, so caution is advised. It should be used with caution in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment or those on dialysis. In patients with heart failure classified as NYHA functional classification III-IV, the use of this medication is not recommended. Patients taking sulfonylureas, patients with pituitary or adrenal insufficiency should also use this medication with caution. Patients with poor nutritional status, irregular dietary intake, those who have engaged in intense physical exercise, or excessive alcohol consumption should be administered this medication cautiously. This medication may cause some side effects such as headaches, nasopharyngitis, upper respiratory infections, and very rarely pancreatitis. Severe allergic reactions like anaphylaxis, angioedema, or serious skin reactions have been reported; if symptoms occur, discontinue use immediately. Hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, and dosage adjustments may be necessary when used in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas. Liver function abnormalities may appear, so if symptoms like fatigue, appetite loss, or jaundice occur, immediate testing is required. Severe joint pain or blistering skin disease may develop; consult a physician if such symptoms arise. The use of this medication is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, and its safety in children has not been established. Elderly patients may have a higher risk of renal impairment, so dosage adjustment and careful monitoring are necessary. In patients with severe liver dysfunction, it should be used cautiously and monitoring and treatment may be necessary in case of overdose. This medication is primarily excreted through the kidneys, and while interactions with other drugs are minimal, it is advisable to consult a physician or pharmacist about concurrently used medications. Keep out of reach of children, and store in the original container to prevent misuse or degradation of quality.

Hives, severe swelling (angioedema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in mucous membranes of mouth/eyes, anaphylaxis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, severe skin adverse reactions, difficulty or trouble breathing, asthma attacks, cough with fever along with respiratory abnormalities, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), extreme lethargy, liver failure, sudden and severe abdominal pain
