Used in the treatment of essential hypertension to help control blood pressure within a normal range and prevent cardiovascular complications.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended initial dose for adults is 10mg once daily, administered regardless of meals. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled, the dose may be increased to 20mg once daily. If additional blood pressure reduction is needed, the dose may be increased up to a maximum of 40mg once daily. The antihypertensive effect appears within 2 weeks after starting treatment, reaching maximum effect in about 8 weeks. If blood pressure control is difficult, the medication may be used in combination with thiazide diuretics.

Child dose

Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Individuals allergic to any ingredients in this medication, pregnant or nursing women, patients undergoing kidney dialysis, patients with severe liver disorders, patients with biliary obstruction, and those with certain genetic forms of lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Patients with reduced blood volume or salt, severe heart failure, impaired kidney function, renal artery hypertension, patients at risk for hyperkalemia, and patients with aortic and mitral stenosis should be closely monitored for hypotension or changes in kidney function when taking this medication. Dizziness may occur while taking this medication, so it is advisable to avoid hazardous activities such as working at heights or operating machinery while on this medication. Although generally well tolerated in hypertensive patients, rare side effects such as chest pain, peripheral edema, dizziness, abdominal pain, nausea, palpitations, and rash may occur. If severe adverse reactions or allergic reactions occur, consult a healthcare professional immediately. Caution is advised if taken with other potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements, as blood potassium levels could dangerously increase. Additionally, there may be interactions with lithium or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, so it is necessary to inform healthcare professionals. Pregnant individuals should not take this medication due to the risk of hypotension, kidney problems, and underdeveloped skull in the fetus. Nursing mothers are advised to either discontinue breastfeeding or this medication, as there is a potential for transmission in breast milk. Safety in pediatric patients has not been established, and use in children is not recommended. Elderly patients should be cautious as the concentration of the medication in the body may increase. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension and palpitations may appear; seek medical attention immediately if these symptoms occur.
