Precautions

This medication contains metformin and vildagliptin and is mainly used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It can cause severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia, so it should not be administered to patients with moderate or severe renal impairment or heart failure. Particularly in patients with abnormal renal function, cardiovascular collapse, acute myocardial infarction, or sepsis, this medication should not be used, and treatment should be temporarily discontinued before and after the administration of radiopaque iodine contrasts. It is also safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women to refrain from using this medication. Cautions should be taken as irregular meals, vigorous exercise, and interactions with other medications can increase the risk of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis. During treatment, mild side effects such as headaches, dizziness, nausea, and hypoglycemia may occur, and if symptoms like abnormal liver function, skin rashes, or joint pain appear, immediate consultation with a physician is advisable. This medication is not suitable for patients with type 1 diabetes who require insulin therapy. If symptoms of acute pancreatitis occur, treatment should be stopped immediately, and due to the risk of lactic acidosis, treatment should be paused in the event of dehydration, severe diarrhea, vomiting, or fever, and medical personnel should be informed. Patients with impaired liver function and those who consume excessive alcohol should take caution when using this medication. Renal function should be regularly monitored, and treatment should be terminated if renal function declines. This medication can interact with various drugs, so patients taking other medications should inform their doctor or pharmacist and be managed carefully. Elderly individuals may have reduced renal function, so dosage adjustments and regular renal function tests are necessary. In the case of an overdose, supportive therapy is needed, and the metformin component can be removed through hemodialysis. When storing, keep in a place out of reach of children, and avoid transferring to another container. During the use of this medication, it is important to be fully aware of the symptoms of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis and consult medical personnel immediately if symptoms appear.
