Precautions
This medication contains sitagliptin and pioglitazone, and is primarily used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
Firstly, sitagliptin can rarely cause serious allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor.
Additionally, there is a risk of acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so if symptoms of abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting occur, inform healthcare personnel immediately.
Pioglitazone may worsen heart failure, particularly congestive heart failure, so patients with a history of heart disease or symptoms of heart failure should not use this medication. During treatment, symptoms such as weight gain, difficulty breathing, or leg swelling should be carefully monitored.
This medication should not be used in patients with bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer, and if blood in urine or pain occurs during urination, inform a doctor immediately.
Patients with impaired liver or kidney function should use this medication cautiously, and it should not be administered in cases of significantly reduced kidney function.
Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant are advised not to use this medication, and premenopausal women should take appropriate contraception due to an increased risk of pregnancy while taking this medication.
During the use of this medication, symptoms of hypoglycemia (dizziness, cold sweat, severe fatigue, etc.) may occur, so caution is advised, especially when taken together with other diabetic medications such as insulin or sulfonylureas, which can increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Additionally, this medication may cause weight gain and edema, so changes in weight and signs of edema should be monitored. There may also be an increased risk of fractures, so particularly female patients should be mindful of bone health.
If signs of liver dysfunction (fatigue, loss of appetite, jaundice, etc.) occur while taking this medication, inform a doctor immediately, and regular liver function tests are recommended.
Finally, this medication has been reported to cause side effects such as headache, upper respiratory infections, and nasopharyngitis in some patients, so if symptoms persist or worsen, consult healthcare personnel.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
Storage
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to prevent air exposure and should be kept at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage will maintain the effectiveness of the medication and prevent deterioration.
