Dosage and Administration
Adult dosage
For adults, this medication may be administered as 1 tablet daily without regard to meals to patients with type 2 diabetes receiving a combination of 100mg sitagliptin and 15mg or 30mg pioglitazone.
Precautions
This medication contains two ingredients, sitagliptin and pioglitazone.
First, the sitagliptin component may rarely cause serious allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as skin rash, hives, or difficulty breathing occur after taking the medication, you should stop taking it immediately and consult a doctor.
Also, sitagliptin may carry a risk of causing pancreatitis, so if you experience abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite while taking it, you should inform a healthcare provider immediately.
The pioglitazone component can exacerbate or cause heart failure, so patients with heart failure or those with a history of heart failure should not take this medication, and symptoms of heart failure such as weight gain, shortness of breath, and leg swelling should be vigilantly monitored during treatment.
This medication should not be administered to patients with active bladder cancer or a previous history of bladder cancer, and if symptoms such as hematuria or urgency occur during urination, you should notify a doctor immediately.
Patients with severely impaired kidney function should not take this medication, and those with slightly impaired kidney function should have dosage adjustments as needed, with regular kidney function tests recommended.
Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should not take this medication, and premenopausal women should take appropriate contraceptive measures to prevent pregnancy.
While taking this medication, you should pay attention to symptoms of hypoglycemia, as the risk of hypoglycemia may increase when combined with other diabetes medications.
Additionally, this medication may cause edema and weight gain, so if these symptoms occur, you should consult a healthcare provider.
Rarely, symptoms of abnormal liver function and liver failure have been reported, so if you experience symptoms indicative of liver damage such as fatigue, jaundice, or abdominal pain, you should seek medical attention immediately.
Finally, this medication may increase the risk of fractures, so especially female patients should pay attention to bone health and receive appropriate tests as needed.
