Improvement in blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication helps control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes by combining the effects of sitagliptin and metformin. It provides additional blood sugar management effects for patients who are also following dietary and exercise regimens. This helps maintain blood sugar levels more stably, supporting diabetes management. Therefore, this medication is used for improving blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
The usual dosage of this medication is 1 tablet taken twice daily with meals. To reduce gastrointestinal adverse reactions caused by metformin, the dosage should be gradually increased. 1. For patients who are currently not treated with metformin: - Start with an initial dose of this medication 50/500 mg, 1 tablet twice daily. - If necessary, the dose may be increased to this medication 50/1000 mg, 1 tablet twice daily. 2.
This medication contains two ingredients that help control blood sugar levels. First, one of this medication's components may cause allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as skin rash, hives, or severe cases such as breathing difficulties occur, it is essential to stop taking the medication immediately and consult a physician. Additionally, this component has been reported to potentially cause a serious side effect known as pancreatitis, characterized by inflammation of the pancreas; therefore, if symptoms like abdominal pain or vomiting occur during use, careful observation is required and discontinuation may be necessary. The other component should not be administered to patients with weakened kidney function or those in states that could affect kidney function, such as dehydration, severe infections, heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction. Furthermore, this medication is not recommended for pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, lactating women, or children under 18 years old. During the use of this medication, kidney function should be regularly monitored, and if kidney function declines, the medication should be discontinued. This medication may cause hypoglycemia; therefore, especially when taken with other blood sugar-lowering medications, it is important to frequently check blood sugar levels and be alert for symptoms of hypoglycemia. Additionally, a rare but serious metabolic disorder known as lactic acidosis may occur, so if sudden fatigue, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, or abdominal pain manifests, it is crucial to notify a physician immediately. It is advisable to avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication, and if a surgery is approaching or tests using iodinated contrast agents are planned, temporary discontinuation of the medication should be considered. Maintaining regular meals and appropriate exercise is important during medication use, and any abnormal symptoms should be reported to healthcare professionals promptly. Lastly, this medication may interact with certain other drugs, so if other medications are being taken concurrently, it is essential to inform healthcare professionals.
