How to take

Adult dose

This medication is generally taken twice daily with food, and doses are gradually increased to reduce gastrointestinal side effects from metformin. The initial dose is determined based on the patient’s current treatment regimen. 1. For patients not currently treated with metformin: take this medication at 50/500 mg, 1 tablet twice a day, and may increase to 50/1000 mg if needed. 2. For patients on metformin treatment

Precautions

This medication contains two ingredients, sitagliptin and metformin. Sitagliptin can rarely cause serious allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, use should be stopped immediately and medical advice sought. Additionally, sitagliptin may cause pancreatitis, an inflammation of the pancreas; if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting appear, medical attention should be sought immediately. Metformin may cause lactic acidosis, a rare but potentially fatal metabolic complication, so if symptoms like sudden difficulty breathing, muscle pain, fatigue, or abdominal pain occur, take the medication only after immediately stopping and going to the hospital. This medication should not be administered to patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, severe infections, heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, sepsis, or other conditions that may affect renal function. Also, before and after tests using radiopaque agents, this medication should be temporarily discontinued due to the risk of worsening renal function and lactic acidosis, and should be resumed only after confirming normal renal function. It is safest not to use this medication in women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, breastfeeding women, and children under 18 years of age. While taking this medication, regular meals and exercise, as well as regular monitoring of blood sugar and renal function, are necessary; medication may need to be temporarily discontinued during acute illnesses or surgeries. This medication may increase the risk of hypoglycemia when used with other hypoglycemic agents or insulin, so hypoglycemic symptoms should be noted, and dosages adjusted if necessary. Alcohol consumption can increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so drinking should be avoided during treatment. If sudden joint pain, skin rash, or blisters occur during treatment, notify and consult a doctor immediately. In cases of overdose, seek appropriate medical treatment immediately; sitagliptin can be partially removed by hemodialysis.
