This medicine is used to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered as an adjunct to diet and exercise therapy and can be used alone or in combination with other medications. This helps effectively manage blood sugar and contributes to the prevention of complications.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is to be administered as a single daily dose of 100 mg for monotherapy or combination therapy, with a maximum daily dose of 100 mg. It can be taken irrespective of meals. In cases of renal impairment, dose adjustments may be necessary according to renal function. - Mild renal impairment (eGFR 60–90 mL/min/1.73 m2): No dose adjustment needed. - Moderate renal impairment (eGFR 45–60 mL/min/1.73 m2):

Precautions

This medicine can rarely cause serious allergic reactions. Such reactions may occur within three months of starting the medication, so if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, discontinue the medication immediately and consult a doctor. This medication may cause a serious side effect called pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas. If symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting occur, discontinue the medication immediately and inform a healthcare provider. This medication should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, and those who have hypersensitivity to this drug or its components should also avoid it. Patients with impaired renal function may need dose adjustments; therefore, it is important to determine the appropriate dose through kidney function tests. Be cautious of hypoglycemic symptoms while taking this medication, especially when used in conjunction with other hypoglycemic agents like insulin or sulfonylureas, as this may increase the risk of hypoglycemia, necessitating dose adjustments. Side effects such as headache, upper respiratory infection, pharyngitis, diarrhea, and nausea may occur, so if symptoms are severe or persistent, consult a healthcare provider. Rare side effects such as severe joint pain or blistering dermatitis like bullous pemphigoid have also been reported; if such symptoms appear, inform a doctor immediately. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are not recommended to use this medication, and safety and efficacy in children under 18 years of age have not been sufficiently established. Elderly patients may have decreased renal function, so it is necessary to periodically evaluate renal function before and during the use of this medication. In the case of overdose, standard treatment should be administered, and this medication may be partially removed through dialysis; therefore, dialysis may be considered if needed.
