This medication is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be used alone or in combination with other medications. This helps effectively manage blood sugar and aids in diabetes treatment.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered at a dose of 100 mg once daily in monotherapy or combination therapy, with a maximum daily dose of 100 mg. It can be taken regardless of meals. Patients with renal impairment may require dose adjustment based on glomerular filtration rate. - No dose adjustment is needed for mild and moderate renal impairment (glomerular filtration rate between 45 and less than 90). - For a glomerular filtration rate between 30 and less than 45, administer 50 mg once daily.

Precautions

This medication may rarely cause serious allergic reactions; if you experience sudden rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck within 3 months of taking it, immediately stop taking it and consult your doctor. Serious side effects have been reported, including pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas. If you experience symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite, immediately inform a healthcare professional. This medication should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or those with ketoacidosis. Patients allergic to this medication or its components should not take it. Patients with reduced kidney function may have slower excretion of this medication, so dose adjustment is necessary and should be taken under a doctor's direction. During treatment with this medication, cold symptoms, headaches, upper respiratory infections, etc., may occur. If symptoms are severe or persistent, consult your healthcare provider. When used in conjunction with other diabetes medications, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so blood sugar changes should be carefully monitored, and dose adjustment of other medications may be necessary. If severe joint pain or skin blisters arise, stop taking this medication immediately and inform your doctor. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid using this medication, and safety in pediatric patients under the age of 18 has not been established. Elderly patients may be at increased risk for decreased kidney function; therefore, regular kidney function tests should be performed before and during treatment. In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment; this medication can be partially removed through dialysis.
