Effect on blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes and prevention of cardiovascular events
This medication is used to help control blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes by combining the effects of dapagliflozin and metformin. It is particularly effective for individuals who are also implementing dietary control and exercise. Additionally, caution is required when using dapagliflozin in patients with cardiovascular diseases or risk factors where blood sugar is not well-controlled. It is important to refer to expert opinions on the safe use of this medication, which ultimately aids in improving blood sugar control.
This medication is generally administered once daily with the evening meal. The maximum dose is once daily dapagliflozin 10 mg / sustained-release metformin 2000 mg, taken as two tablets of 5 mg / 1000 mg. For initial therapy, the recommended starting dose is one tablet of 5 mg / 500 mg or 10 mg / 500 mg taken once daily. To minimize gastrointestinal side effects of metformin, the dose should be adjusted gradually.
This medication is used for diabetes treatment and should not be administered to patients with poor kidney function or acute illnesses. It can rarely cause a serious side effect known as lactic acidosis, so if symptoms such as difficulty breathing, muscle pain, or weakness appear, you should immediately consult a doctor. When used together with insulin or sulfonylurea medications, there is a risk of hypoglycemia, so blood sugar levels should be monitored carefully. Patients with decreased kidney function or dehydration should check their fluid status and kidney function before taking this medication and require regular monitoring during treatment. This medication may increase the risk of genital and urinary tract infections, so prompt treatment should be sought if infection symptoms occur. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as those who are breastfeeding, should not use this medication and should discontinue it immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Elderly patients or those with impaired liver function are at higher risk for side effects when taking this medication, so dose adjustment and careful monitoring are necessary. This medication may interact with some drugs, so if you are taking other medications, you must inform your doctor or pharmacist. In case of overdose, seek medical attention immediately for appropriate treatment, and rapid dialysis may be required. During the use of this medication, be cautious of symptoms like dizziness when driving or operating machinery and keep it out of reach of children.
