Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin for diabetes treatment, and there are several important precautions when taking it. First, the sitagliptin component can, although rarely, cause serious allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, it is necessary to stop taking the medication immediately and seek medical attention. Second, there is a risk of pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so if sudden abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea occurs after taking the medication, medical personnel should be notified immediately. Third, the metformin component can rarely cause a serious metabolic disorder called lactic acidosis, which is a very dangerous condition. Therefore, if symptoms such as difficulty breathing, muscle pain, fatigue, or abdominal pain occur, one must go to the hospital immediately. Additionally, this medication should not be administered to patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, severe infections or dehydration, heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, or acute illnesses affecting renal function. When undergoing tests with radiocontrast agents, it is necessary to discontinue the medication for a certain period before and after the test due to risks of kidney damage and lactic acidosis. It is also safe not to administer this medication to pregnant women or nursing mothers. When taking this medication, special caution should be exercised for irregular meals, excessive exercise, interactions with other medications, and if allergic to the red dye No. 40 contained in this medication. While taking this medication, gastrointestinal disturbances, hypoglycemia, and skin rashes may occur; if symptoms persist or worsen, it is important to consult with medical personnel. Finally, it is advised to temporarily discontinue the medication before and after surgery, during severe infections, or in cases of malnutrition, and to start taking it again once the condition stabilizes.
