Precautions

This medication is primarily used for the treatment of diabetes and helps in controlling blood sugar levels. Caution is required when taking this medication as severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia may occur. It should especially be avoided by patients with moderate to severe impaired kidney function, heart failure, acute infections, or severe trauma. If a test using a radiologic iodinated contrast agent is to be conducted, this medication should be discontinued 48 hours prior to the test and resumed only after confirming normal kidney function following the test. It is safe to avoid this medication during pregnancy and lactation. People should be cautious about irregular dietary habits, vigorous exercise, and concomitant use with other medications as these may elevate risks of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis. Regular testing of liver and kidney function should be done during treatment, and if any deterioration of liver or kidney function is observed, the doctor should be consulted immediately. This medication cannot replace insulin when used alone and should not be used by patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. If symptoms of acute pancreatitis appear, the medication should be discontinued immediately and healthcare professionals should be informed. It is advisable to avoid excessive alcohol consumption. Hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, so sugars should be consumed when symptoms arise, and consultation with a doctor is needed if necessary. When administered to elderly patients, kidney function must be carefully monitored, and in case of overdose, immediate hospital visit for appropriate treatment is required. Use of this medication is not recommended for children and adolescents. During treatment, symptoms or adverse reactions should be consulted with a doctor immediately, especially if blisters or ulcers appear on the skin, and it is crucial to report promptly to healthcare professionals. Finally, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children and not transferred into another container.
