Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. Sitagliptin and Metformin work together to assist dietary and exercise therapies and effectively manage blood sugar levels. This enhances blood sugar control in patients and aids in diabetes management.
This medication is generally taken twice daily with food, and the dose is gradually increased to reduce gastrointestinal side effects caused by Metformin. 1. For patients not currently treated with Metformin: The initial dose is 50/500 mg taken twice a day, with increments to 50/1000 mg taken twice a day as needed. 2. For patients undergoing Metformin treatment:
This medication consists of two components, and caution is required based on each ingredient. First, one component of this drug may cause allergic reactions, and in severe cases, significant hypersensitive reactions such as skin diseases or difficulty in breathing may appear; if such symptoms are suspected, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. Second, serious side effects such as pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, have been reported with this medication, so if abdominal pain, vomiting, fever, or other symptoms occur during use, notify a healthcare professional immediately. Third, the other component of this medication may risk causing lactic acidosis, a rare but potentially fatal metabolic disorder, in patients with decreased kidney function. Regular testing of kidney function is necessary, and patients with severely impaired kidney function should not take this medication. Fourth, this medication may cause hypoglycemia, so special attention should be paid to blood sugar levels, particularly when meals are skipped or irregular, during vigorous exercise, or when taken with other blood sugar-lowering medications. Fifth, this medication must be temporarily discontinued before and after tests involving specific contrast agents, and it should only be resumed after kidney function has been confirmed as normal. Sixth, women who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breastfeeding should not take this medication. Seventh, elderly patients, as kidney function may decrease, should undergo regular kidney function assessments, and dose adjustments should be made as necessary. Finally, it is important to avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication, and if unusual symptoms appear while taking the drug, consult a physician immediately.
