Camgios Capsule 2.5 mg (Mavacamten)

Adult dose

The recommended starting dose of this drug is 5 mg orally once daily, with or without food. Swallow this drug whole with water. Do not open, crush, or chew the capsule. The patient's initial clinical response should be assessed 4 weeks after starting this drug. If the Valsalva LVOT gradient is < 20 mmHg, reduce the dose to 2.5 mg once daily. Otherwise, maintain the dose at 5 mg once daily. Subsequent follow-up visits should take place 8 and 12 weeks after starting treatment, with dose adjustments as needed. Until an individualized maintenance dose is reached, patients should be assessed at least every 12 weeks. After reaching an individualized maintenance dose, LVEF and Valsalva LVOT should be assessed at least every 6 months. If the patient's LVEF is < 50% at any visit, interrupt treatment for at least 4 weeks and until LVEF is ≥50%.

This drug may lower the left ventricular ejection fraction, posing a risk of impaired heart function. It is essential to evaluate heart function with an echocardiogram before starting this medication and to undergo regular monitoring during treatment. If heart function falls below a certain level, this drug should not be initiated, and it should be stopped immediately if heart function worsens or if symptoms of heart failure appear. This drug should not be used in combination with other medications that inhibit or activate specific enzymes, as this may increase the risk of cardiac dysfunction. It should definitely not be used by pregnant women, as it may harm the fetus. Women who could become pregnant should confirm their pregnancy status before starting this medication and should use effective contraception for at least four months during and after treatment. Patients with allergies to this medication or who are taking powerful medications that inhibit or induce specific enzymes should also avoid use. Caution is warranted in patients with severely impaired renal or hepatic function, or when used with beta-blockers or specific calcium channel blockers. Common side effects such as dizziness or headaches may occur with this medication; therefore, caution should be taken when driving or operating machinery. Also, this medication may interact with various drugs, so you should inform your doctor of all medications you are taking, especially when used with drugs that decrease cardiac contractility. In case of overdose, heart function deterioration may worsen, so if overdose is suspected, immediate consultation with healthcare providers and necessary treatment should be sought.

Appearance

This medication is a hard capsule with an upper opaque bright purple and a lower opaque white, filled with white to off-white powder, with “2.5mg” printed on the upper part and “Mava” printed on the lower part.
