Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin and is mainly used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. During the course of this medication, serious allergic reactions may occur; therefore, if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, it is essential to cease taking the medication immediately and consult a healthcare professional. Severe side effects like pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, have been reported; if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting occur, inform your doctor immediately. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, acute heart conditions, or serious infections should not use this medication, and the decision to administer it should be based on kidney function test results. This medication may cause a rare but fatal metabolic complication known as lactic acidosis; thus, if sudden fatigue, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, or abdominal pain occurs, cease treatment immediately and visit a hospital. Excessive alcohol consumption increases the risk of lactic acidosis; therefore, it is crucial to avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medication. If undergoing surgery or in a state of severe infection or dehydration, temporarily discontinue this medication and resume once recovery is achieved and kidney function returns to normal. When taken alongside other medications with strong blood sugar-lowering effects, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase; hence, regular monitoring of blood sugar levels and awareness of hypoglycemia symptoms are necessary. Particularly elderly patients or those with poor nutritional status have a higher risk of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis; thus, regular kidney function and blood tests should be conducted. It is advised not to use this medication during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or for children under 18 years of age. During the use of this medication, regular checks on blood sugar, kidney function, and vitamin B12 levels should be conducted to continuously monitor health status. In cases of medication overdose, visit a medical facility immediately for appropriate treatment, as some components can be removed through dialysis.
