This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin and is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Firstly, serious allergic reactions may occur during the use of this medication, so if symptoms such as rash, hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, stopping the medication immediately and consulting a physician is necessary. Additionally, acute pancreatitis may occur, so if sudden severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or fever occurs, seeking medical attention promptly is essential. Metformin, one of the components, can lead to rare but fatal lactic acidosis, so it should not be used in patients with poor kidney function, dehydration, severe infections, heart failure, or liver diseases. Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment or certain acute conditions should avoid this medication, and treatment should be stopped before and after examinations using radiologic contrast agents. It is not advised for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, or for breastfeeding women. While taking this medication, it is essential to maintain regular meals and proper exercise, and blood glucose levels should be checked frequently as hypoglycemia may occur. The risk of hypoglycemia can be increased, especially when used in conjunction with insulin or other hypoglycemic agents. Moreover, this medication contains certain colorants, so caution is advised if there is an allergy to these components. In cases of surgery, severe infections, trauma, etc., taking this medication should be temporarily discontinued, and it should be resumed only after the patient’s condition stabilizes and kidney function returns to normal. During the use of this medication, it is advisable to avoid alcohol consumption, and kidney function and vitamin B12 levels should be regularly monitored for any abnormalities. Finally, it is important that patients taking this medication or their guardians fully understand the medication's effects and side effects, and report any unusual symptoms to healthcare professionals immediately.
