Precautions

This medication contains two components and is used in the treatment of diabetes. The first component helps in controlling blood sugar but can rarely cause severe allergic reactions, so caution is advised. If symptoms such as rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a doctor. Additionally, this medication can cause pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so if symptoms such as sudden abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or fever occur, medical attention should be sought immediately. It is important to carefully observe for symptoms of pancreatitis while taking this medication. The second component carries a risk of causing lactic acidosis, a rare but serious metabolic complication. Lactic acidosis occurs when there is excessive buildup of lactic acid in the body, with symptoms including weakness, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, and unusual changes in consciousness. If these symptoms occur, stop taking the medication immediately and visit a medical facility. This medication should not be administered to patients with poor kidney function, acute infections, dehydration, severe heart problems, or liver dysfunction. Also, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication. During treatment, regular monitoring of kidney function and blood tests are necessary, and it is important to check vitamin B12 levels as well. Alcohol consumption can increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so it is advisable to avoid it. Patients scheduled for surgery should stop taking the medication 48 hours before the procedure and should not restart until kidney function has returned to normal after surgery. This medication can cause hypoglycemia, so patients should be alert for symptoms of low blood sugar, particularly in cases of irregular meals, excessive exercise, or when taken with other blood sugar-lowering medications. Symptoms of hypoglycemia include dizziness, trembling, sweating, and confusion; if such symptoms occur, immediate intake of sugar is required. If blisters or severe joint pain develop while taking this medication, notify a doctor immediately, and treatment may need to be stopped if these symptoms occur. Finally, while taking this medication, it is important to continue adhering to diet and regular exercise, and to routinely check blood sugar and kidney function.
