Precautions

This medication contains both sitagliptin and metformin, which are used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. First, serious allergic reactions may occur during treatment with this medication, so if symptoms such as skin rash, hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. Additionally, there is a risk of pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or fever occur, notify healthcare professionals immediately. The metformin component of this medication can occasionally cause a serious metabolic disorder called lactic acidosis, which may progress to weakness, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, and coma; if these symptoms appear, seek medical attention immediately. Patients with impaired kidney function, severe infections, dehydration, acute myocardial infarction, or heart failure should avoid using this medication due to potential risks. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, as well as lactating women, should also refrain from taking this medication for safety reasons. This medication has a blood sugar-lowering effect, so symptoms of hypoglycemia such as dizziness, cold sweat, trembling, and headache may occur, and care must be taken as the risk of hypoglycemia may increase when used with other diabetes medications or insulin. During treatment, regular monitoring of kidney function and blood tests should be conducted to detect and manage any abnormalities promptly. Excessive alcohol consumption may increase the risk of side effects associated with this medication, so alcohol should be avoided. If iodine contrast agents are to be used for surgery or radiological examinations, the use of this medication should be temporarily discontinued and resumed only after confirming that kidney function is normal. Lastly, this medication should not be used in children or adolescents under the age of 18, as its safety and efficacy have not been sufficiently established.
