Precautions

This medication is a diabetes treatment that contains both sitagliptin and metformin. Severe allergic reactions may occur during treatment; if symptoms such as rash, itching, or difficulty breathing appear, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a physician. Severe adverse effects such as acute pancreatitis have been reported, so seek immediate medical attention in case of symptoms like abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting. Patients with severely decreased renal function, acute heart failure, severe infections, or dehydration should not take this medication due to potential risks. Temporarily discontinue this medication before and after tests using iodinated contrast agents, and resume only after renal function is confirmed to be normal. It is safe for pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, to not take this medication. Be cautious of hypoglycemic symptoms while taking this medication, particularly if used in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylureas, as the risk of hypoglycemia is increased. Patients with impaired liver function or those who consume alcohol excessively are at risk of developing serious metabolic disorders such as lactic acidosis, so caution is required. Regular kidney function and blood tests are necessary, and vitamin B12 deficiency may occur, necessitating supplementation if needed. Patients scheduled for surgery should discontinue this medication 48 hours prior to surgery and resume only after confirming normal renal function post-surgery. This medication has not established safety and efficacy in children, and it is recommended that not to be administered to pediatric patients under 18 years of age. Elderly patients may be at risk of decreased renal function, so dosage adjustment and regular renal function testing are required. In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment, and the medication can be removed through blood dialysis. Throughout the treatment with this medication, maintaining regular meals and exercise, along with regular blood glucose and blood tests, is crucial for effective management.
