Precautions

This medication contains two active ingredients, each of which has different precautions to be aware of. First, one of the active ingredients, sitagliptin, can cause rare but serious allergic reactions. Such reactions may occur within 3 months after starting the medication, so if symptoms such as skin rash or difficulty breathing occur, you should stop taking the medication immediately and consult a doctor. Additionally, while taking sitagliptin, pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) may occur, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or fever arise, stop taking the medication immediately and inform your healthcare provider. Second, the other active ingredient, metformin, may pose risks to patients with impaired kidney function, severe infections, or dehydration. In particular, it should not be used in cases of significantly impaired kidney function. Metformin can cause lactic acidosis, a rare but life-threatening metabolic disorder, so if sudden symptoms such as difficulty breathing, muscle pain, fatigue, or abdominal pain occur, stop taking the medication immediately and seek emergency treatment. Also, this medication should be temporarily discontinued before diagnostic tests using specific contrast agents and resumed only after confirming normal kidney function post-examination. This medication is not to be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding women, nor to children under 18 years of age. During treatment, hypoglycemia may occur, so particularly if taken with other blood glucose-lowering agents, blood sugar levels should be monitored frequently, and patients should be aware of hypoglycemic symptoms. Furthermore, excessive alcohol consumption, intense exercise, and irregular meals may increase the risk of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis, so precautions should be taken. Regular monitoring of kidney function and blood tests, including Vitamin B12 levels, is recommended while taking this medication. Finally, this medication contains specific coloring agents, and patients allergic to these components should be cautious.
