Precautions

This medicine consists of two components and helps in controlling blood sugar. Firstly, the sitagliptin component can rarely cause serious allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as rash or difficulty breathing occur, the medication should be discontinued immediately. Additionally, there is a risk of pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so if there are any symptoms like abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe abdominal pain, consulting a doctor immediately is recommended. The metformin component can cause a rare but life-threatening condition known as lactic acidosis. This condition can present symptoms such as muscle pain, fatigue, difficulty breathing, and abdominal pain, so treatment should be sought immediately if these symptoms occur. This medicine should not be used in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, severe infections, congestive heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction. It is also contraindicated in pregnant or breastfeeding women. While taking this medicine, renal function should be checked regularly, and if there is dehydration or severe vomiting or diarrhea, the medication should be temporarily discontinued and a doctor consulted. This medicine can cause hypoglycemia, particularly when taken with other hypoglycemic agents, so symptoms of hypoglycemia such as dizziness, sweating, and trembling should be monitored closely. It is advisable to avoid alcohol consumption during treatment with this medicine, and the medication should be temporarily discontinued prior to surgery or radiologic contrast studies. Lastly, some individuals may experience side effects such as diarrhea, headache, upper respiratory infections, so if these symptoms are severe, consulting a doctor is advisable.
