Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin and is used for the treatment of diabetes. First, a serious allergic reaction may occur during the use of this medication, so if you experience symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck, you should immediately stop taking the medication and consult your doctor. Additionally, this medication may cause inflammation of the pancreas known as pancreatitis, so if you experience abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or severe abdominal discomfort, you should quickly visit a hospital. The metformin component can rarely cause a serious metabolic disorder known as lactic acidosis, accompanied by symptoms such as muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, and loss of appetite, so if these symptoms appear, you should immediately stop taking the medication and inform a healthcare professional. This medication should not be administered to patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, patients with acute heart failure or serious infections, and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Additionally, this medication must be temporarily halted before and after undergoing tests that use iodinated contrast agents, and it should be resumed only after renal function has been confirmed to be normal. When taking this medication, there is a risk of hypoglycemia when used with other potent blood sugar-lowering medications, so blood sugar levels should be checked regularly and the dosage adjusted according to the physician's instructions as needed. Elderly patients or those with weakened renal function should have regular kidney function tests and consult a doctor immediately if any abnormal signs occur. Moreover, this medication contains specific coloring agents, so patients allergic to those components should exercise caution. If food intake is restricted prior to surgery, the medication should be discontinued 48 hours beforehand, and it should only be resumed after confirming normal kidney function post-surgery. Finally, it is advisable to avoid alcohol intake while on this medication, and regular meals, exercise, along with periodic blood sugar and kidney function tests are important.
