Precautions

This drug is used for the treatment of diabetes and contains both sitagliptin and metformin. First, severe allergic reactions may occur while taking this medication; symptoms such as rash, itching, or difficulty breathing should prompt immediate consultation with a doctor. Second, acute pancreatitis, which is an inflammation of the pancreas, can rarely occur as a serious side effect, so if symptoms like abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting arise, the medication should be stopped immediately and medical attention sought. Third, due to the metformin component, lactic acidosis, a rare but potentially fatal metabolic disorder, may occur. If severe dehydration, infection, difficulty breathing, muscle pain, or similar symptoms occur, inform medical personnel right away. Fourth, patients with poor kidney function, severe liver disease, acute heart failure, severe infections, or those scheduled for surgery should not take this medication. Additionally, the medication should be temporarily discontinued before and after any examination utilizing iodinated contrast media. Fifth, this medication carries a risk of hypoglycemia. Caution is needed while skipping meals, having irregular eating habits, or engaging in strenuous exercise. Blood sugar should be frequently monitored, especially when taken with other hypoglycemic agents such as insulin or sulfonylureas. Sixth, it is advisable not to take this medication during pregnancy or if pregnant women are likely to conceive, as well as during breastfeeding. Seventh, elderly patients should regularly monitor kidney function as it may decline, and dose adjustments may be necessary. Lastly, while taking this medication, excessive alcohol should be avoided, and regular checks of blood glucose, kidney function, and vitamin B12 levels should be conducted to maintain health status.
